In Their Own Words

SW

Sunita W.

Bangkok · Equities programme

I have been reading financial news for years without really understanding what I was reading. The Equities programme gave me the vocabulary I was missing. The glossary alone was worth attending for — I still refer to it. The facilitator was patient with basic questions and did not make anyone feel embarrassed for asking.

Bangkok · Saving Habit workshop

I attended with my wife on a Saturday. We had both been meaning to revisit how we handle our household saving since our youngest finished school, but somehow kept postponing the conversation. The workshop gave us a structured way to think through it. The worksheet we filled in at home afterwards was genuinely useful. I would have liked a slightly longer afternoon session, but overall it was time well spent.

Nattaya L.

Bangkok · Three-Generation programme

My husband and I have been supporting his mother for three years without ever really talking through what the arrangement looks like long-term. The Two-session weekend helped us name what we were doing and think about it more carefully. Nothing dramatic happened in the room, which I think was intentional — but the conversation guide we took home has been sitting on our kitchen table and we keep returning to it.

Chaowalit R.

Bangkok · Equities programme

I had tried to understand the SET through online resources for two years. I always ran into terms I did not know, and most explanations assumed context I did not have. The four sessions gave me a foundation. By the third session I could follow a company's annual report without stopping every paragraph. I am planning to attend the Saving Habit workshop next.

Malee T.

Bangkok · Saving Habit workshop

What I appreciated most was that nothing was sold to me. I have been to financial talks at my bank where the whole point, it turns out, was to sell a product. This was genuinely different. The facilitator shared examples, gave us the worksheet, and let us think. I came away with a clearer sense of where my saving habits have drifted since my income changed five years ago.

Apinya P.

Bangkok · Three-Generation programme

I am the eldest daughter and my parents' situation has been on my mind for a long time. I came to the weekend programme alone — my husband could not attend — and I found it just as useful as I hoped. The other participants were all navigating similar situations, and hearing that was reassuring in itself. The facilitator was thoughtful and careful not to push anyone toward particular decisions.

Situations That Shaped the Programmes

From reading the headlines to reading the numbers

Starting Point

A retired civil engineer in his late fifties had been following Thai market news for several years but could not connect the terminology he read with any meaningful understanding of what companies were actually reporting.

Programme Approach

Over four sessions, the facilitator worked through company financial statements using real SET-listed examples, building the vocabulary step by step. The participant asked questions in Thai throughout, which the facilitator welcomed.

Where He Is Now

Six months after the programme, he describes himself as someone who can now read a company report without assistance. He attended the Saving Habit workshop the following quarter. No product recommendations were made.

"I finally feel like I understand what people are talking about when they discuss the market. That alone made the four sessions worth attending." — C.R., programme participant, November 2024

Finding language for a conversation that had been postponed

Starting Point

A couple in their mid-forties were managing financial transfers to a parent in Chiang Mai while also beginning to think about their own retirement. The topic felt too large to start anywhere specific.

Programme Approach

Both attended the weekend sessions. The facilitator structured the discussion around the three distinct financial relationships — upward, current, and downward — helping them see each as a separable conversation rather than one overwhelming whole.

Where They Are Now

They used the conversation guide at home over three evenings in the month following the programme. They described it as giving them a structure they had not previously had for talking about money as a household.

"We did not come away with a plan, but we came away with a way of talking about it. That was what we needed." — N. & P.L., programme participants, January 2025

Revisiting a saving habit that had not been examined in a decade

Starting Point

A teacher in her early fifties noticed that her saving rate had not changed in ten years despite her income having grown substantially. She was not sure where the difference was going, or whether her current arrangement still made sense.

Programme Approach

The one-day workshop helped her map the structure of her household income and saving patterns against what her goals for the next fifteen years actually were. The worksheet gave her a framework to continue the reflection at home.

Where She Is Now

After working through the worksheet, she adjusted her automatic saving arrangement and found the process straightforward once she had the framework. She described the workshop as "the push to do something I already knew I needed to do."

"It is not complicated to adjust your saving. What the workshop gave me was a reason to sit down and do it rather than keep assuming I would get around to it." — M.T., programme participant, February 2025
